1.      Name

 

1.1.   The Organisation shall be called “The Progressive Initiative”, hereafter to be referred to as "the Organisation"

 

1.2.   The Organisation will register for and participate in elections and in political activities in the national, provincial and local spheres of government in the Republic of South Africa. It is expected that once registered as a political party the Organisation will continue under the same constitution as a political party.

 

2.      Objectives

 

2.1.   The objectives of the Organisation are to:

2.1.1.      create and develop new political ideas relating to the governing of the Republic of South Africa.

2.1.2.      create awareness of, and build support for these new political ideas.

2.1.3.      promote political awareness and discourse among South Africans.

2.1.4.      make participation in politics more accessible to all the citizens of the Republic of South Africa.

 

3.      Principles

 

3.1.   The principles of the Organisation are to acknowledge and promote:

 

3.1.1.      the fundamental human rights and freedoms of every person;

3.1.2.      the right to protection by the state from crime and violence;

3.1.3.      the rejection of all forms of discrimination;

3.1.4.      equality before the law;

3.1.5.      the right of all people to private ownership and the protection thereof;

3.1.6.      the supremacy of the South African constitution and the rule of law;

3.1.7.      the separation and independence of the legislature, judiciary and government and a clear division between the ruling party and the state;

3.1.8.      the right of all citizens to access affordable food, housing, education and medical treatment;

3.1.9.      a representative and accountable government elected through free, fair and transparent elections;

3.1.10.  freedom of speech and a free independent media;

3.1.11.  a free market economy.

 

 

4.      Legal definition and power

 

4.1.   The Organisation has perpetual succession.

 

4.2.   The Organisation is capable of suing and being sued. It may own, purchase, sell, hire, lease, mortgage, pledge or in any other way acquire, alienate or deal with movable and immovable property and may perform all legal activities authorized by this Constitution, as well as any legal activities normally associated with such an Organisation.

 

5.      Membership

 

5.1.   There shall be three types of memberships available.

 

5.1.1.      Executive Member – A Regular Member elected to the executive.

5.1.2.      Regular Member

5.1.3.      Associate Member

 

5.2.   Every person wishing to become a Regular Member of the Organisation must:

 

5.2.1.      be a citizen or a permanent resident of South Africa;

5.2.2.      be at least 18 years of age;

5.2.3.      subscribe to the Objectives, Principles, and the Programme of Action of the organization;

5.2.4.      agree to abide by the constitution of the Organisation;

5.2.5.      apply in writing to become a Regular Member of the Organisation;

5.2.6.      pay the annual membership subscription and comply with any other conditions set by the Executive.
