5.3. Every
person wishing to become an Associate Member of the Organisation must:
5.3.1.
subscribe to the Objectives, Principles, and
the Programme of Action of the organization;
5.3.2.
agree to abide by the constitution of the
Organisation;
5.3.3.
apply in writing to become a Associate
Member of the Organisation;
5.3.4.
pay the annual
membership subscription and comply with any other conditions set by the
Executive.
5.4. Membership
takes effect when a person complies with the requirements for membership
and may begin at any time during the year.
5.5. Any
member who fails to renew his or her membership on or before the due date
resumes membership only from the date upon which he or she pays the annual
membership subscription.
5.6. The Organisation provides for
life membership of the Organisation at the discretion of the Executive.
5.7. The Executive may refuse to
accept the membership of any person.
6. Executive
6.1. The
following officers of the Organisation shall be termed the Executive:
6.1.1. The
President and Chair
6.1.2. The
Secretary
6.1.3. Three
further Regular Members
6.2. Powers and Functions
of the Officers
6.2.1. The
Officers are the
supreme policy-making and governing body of the organization. The Officers
shall:
6.2.1.1.
control the Organisation and in turn appoint a General Committee;
6.2.1.2.
meet on a regular basis, but
not less than annually, at times, dates and venues determined by the
Chairperson;
6.2.1.3.
formulate and review the
organizations Programme of Action;
6.2.1.4.
manage
and guide the activities of the organizations through the oversight of the
General Committee.
6.3. Election of officers
6.3.1. All
Officers shall be elected at the Annual General Meeting of the
Organisation, from, and by, the voting Members of the Organisation.
6.3.2. All
Officers are elected for a period of one year, but may be re-elected to the
same office or another office the following year.
6.3.3. Only paid up members can serve
on the executive, form part of the general committee or be public
representatives of the Organisation.
7. General Committee
7.1. The General Committee will be appointed by the
Executive.
7.2. The
duties of the General Committee shall be to:
7.2.1. control
the day to day affairs of the Organisation on behalf of the Members;
7.2.2. keep accurate accounts of the finances of the
Organisation through the Treasurer. These should be available for
reasonable inspection by Members and should be audited before every Annual
General Meeting;
7.2.3. maintain a bank account in the name of the Organisation.
The Chairperson and Secretary have exclusive authority to sign Organisation
cheques;
7.2.4. co-opt additional members for the Committee if and when the
Committee feels this is necessary. Co-opted members shall not be entitled
to a vote on the Committee;
7.2.5. make decisions within
the mandate given to them by the Executive on a simple majority vote. In the
case of equal votes, the Chairperson shall be entitled to an additional
casting vote.
